Jaguar extensively damaged after hitting deer near Buckhorn

BUCKHORN, Mo. (Oct. 21, 2015) — Deer encountering living jaguars aren’t likely to avoid getting eaten, but a Jaguar sports car won’t be moving under its own power anytime soon after hitting a deer early Wednesday morning east of the Buckhorn exit on Interstate 44.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, Ezekiel A. Kaplan, 21, of Pittsburgh, was driving westbound on I-44 at 2:24 a.m. when his 1996 Jaguar XJ6 struck a deer at mile marker 152 and came to rest in the roadway.

The sports car sustained extensive damage and was removed by Rothmund’s Towing. Kaplan, who had been wearing his seat belt, suffered only minor injuries and was transported by Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel to Mercy Hospital in Lebanon. Troopers reported he provided no proof of insurance at the scene.

In an unrelated incident reported by troopers:

  • Zackery D. Rogers, 20, of Richland, was arrested at 8:31 p.m. in Laclede County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, possession of liquor by a minor, littering, and failure to place a vehicle not in motion near right as possible. Troopers transported him to the Laclede County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold.
