Fire wrecks Dixon home Saturday
DIXON, Mo. (Feb. 21, 2009) — A cooking fire destroyed a Dixon home early Saturday morning. The blaze, which gutted a single-story wood-frame house at 101 South Oak Street, was called in at 12:48 a.m., but by the time firefighters arrived, flames were already shooting through the roof. “(The resident) put a pan on the stove, forgot about it, and the flames were already climbing up the wall when she caught it,” said Dixon Fire Chief Dennis Lachowicz. w88 contactClick here to read more on Pulaski County Daily News ...

Kerry R. Porter
FLW man arrested following gun incident at Osage Beach
OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (Feb. 21, 2009) — An online hookup involving Kerry R. Porter Jr., 24, of Fort Leonard Wood, ended in violence and shots fired on the night of Feb. 17. A Fort Leonard Wood spokeswoman said she couldn’t confirm whether Porter lived on post but said he doesn’t appear on the record of military personnel assigned to the installation. According to the Osage Beach police, a 23-year-old woman in that community began chatting online with Porter about a month ago, met Porter at a restaurant and decided to bring him to a residence she shared with an estranged boyfriend. A fight between the men ensued moving quickly outside when police allege Porter pulled a handgun from his truck, fired it in the air and punched the estranged boyfriend in the face several times. Porter has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and bonded on $50,000. Click here to read more on Pulaski County Daily News ...

Icy roads wreck four cars Saturday on Highway 133 west of Dixon
DIXON, Mo. (Feb. 21, 2009) — A Saturday morning snowfall melted shortly after dawn throughout most of Pulaski County, but left a few roads ice-covered and slippery. Among those roads was Highway 133 near the Highway N junction five miles west of Dixon, where a tree-shaded road contributed to four wrecks about 9:40 a.m. that injured Gabriele E. Williams, 44, of Dixon. State troopers reported Williams been northbound driving toward Dixon in a 1993 Buick Cutlass when she began to slide on the ice-covered roadway, ran off the left side of the road and struck a fence, causing moderate damage to her vehicle. Williams, who had not been wearing her seat belt, suffered moderate injuries. Click here to read more on Pulaski County Daily News ...

Prosthetic foot factor in handicapped driver crashing through gas station
ST. ROBERT, Mo. (Feb. 21, 2009) — A handicapped driver with a prosthetic foot drove through the front of a St. Robert gas station after his foot got caught in the accelerator, according to St. Robert police. Sgt. Butch Hohman issued a report Friday evening indicating that Donald Ray Long, 72, of Lebanon, pulled his 2005 Mercury Monterey away from the gas pumps at All Star Express at 1:55 p.m. Friday afternoon after refueling and then attempted to park in a marked parking space. “Mr. Long’s prosthetic foot accidently became lodged on the accelerator’s linkage causing the Long vehicle to accelerate,” Hohman wrote in his report. “The Long vehicle then traveled up and over the sidewalk … impacting with the west side (front) of the building causing extensive damage to the structure.” Click here to read more on Pulaski County Daily News ...
